Advanced AI Models Pose Asymmetric Cyber Threats, Bank for International Settlements Warns

According to the analysis, cutting-edge AI systems can accelerate, amplify and complicate cyber attacks while simultaneously bolstering defensive capabilities. However, the advantages appear to favor attackers, as the costs and benefits of these technologies are distributed unevenly across offensive and defensive operations.

The report identifies several factors that will determine how frontier AI affects systemic cyber risk in the coming years:

• The availability of computational resources needed to operate these systems
